Built as New York Central 8038 in June, 1962, part of the railroad’s second order for ten units. It was renumbered New York Central 2038 in 1967, and became Penn Central 2038 in the 1968 merger. It became Conrail 2038 in the 1976 merger. It was retired and traded in to General Electric, who sold it to Diesel Supply of Wisconsin, and became Chicago & North Western 4241 in October, 1979. It was retired in July, 1986, and traded in to EMD. It was scrapped by St. Louis Auto Shredding at Madison, Illinois.
