Phases

  • Phase Ia – January to February, 1951 – Raymond Lowery design elements, round cab windows, screened engine air intakes, bulged out area around radiator, General Steel Castings trucks
  • Phase Ib – October, 1952 to July, 1953 – Cab windows squared off, louvered engine air intakes.
  • Phase IIa – August, 1953 to November, 1955 – Train Master style carbody that is six feet longer, radiator fans spaced apart, single-drop equalized trucks
  • Phase IIb – June, 1956 to January, 1958 – No space between radiator fans, several louver sets moved from upper hood to electrical compartment area.
  • Phase IIc – October, 1958 – Three sets of louvers on engine air intake instead of two.
