Phases

  • Phase I, August, 1944 – Unique, first unit built, Milwaukee 1802. Cast steel frame, Westinghouse electrical system, 125-volt. Two rows of small louvers, one above door and one in the doors mid-height.
  • Phase Ia, November, 1944 to May, 1945 – Cast steel frame, six banks of long louvers above hood doors
  • Phase II, June, 1945 – Welded frames begin on Milwaukee Road 1804
  • Phase IIa – September, 1946 to  – Beginning with C&NW 1048, the first three sets of long louvers above the door line were eliminated.
  • Phase IIb – Beginning with Apache 100, Small louvered panels on bottom of the first two doors behind the radiator shutters removed.
