Norfolk & Western merger

Both Nickel Plate SW1’s survived to become N&W 2105-2106 in 1965. N&W 2105 became Norfolk Southern 2105 in the 1990 merger, and was used as the shop switcher at Roanoke, Virginia, until September, 1996

  • N&W 2106 –  built as Nickel Plate Road 106 > to Norfolk & Western 2106 in 1965 > repainted and renumbered at Decatur, Illinois, February, 1967 > stored Bellevue, Ohio, February, 1985 > retired April, 1985 > to Independent Locomotive Services ISLX 2106, Bethel, Minnesota, November, 1987 > rebuilt and leased to North Central Grain Co-op, Bisbee, North Dakota, March, 1988 > used at Thief River Falls, Minnesota, August, 2007 > used at Decatur, Illinois, and renumbered ISLX 920, April, 2010
  • N&W 3109 – built as Wabash 109 > to Norfolk & Western 3109 in the 1965 merger > repainted Decatur, Illinois, June, 1967 > retired June 14, 1972 > sold for scrap to Precision National Corporation, Mt Vernon, Illinois, January, 1973
  • N&W 3110 – built as Wabash 110 > to Norfolk & Western 3110 in 1965 merger > repainted and renumbered at Decatur, Illinois, October, 1967 > stored Bellevue, Ohio, July, 973 > retired December, 1973 > to Andersen Corporation 3110, Bayport, Minnesota, February, 1974 > to Minnesota Transportation Museum, Duluth, Minnesota
