Phases

Phase I – EMD Demonstrator 990 was built with the doors along the access pannels to the electrical and plumbing systems along the walkways with a pattern of two rows of seven holes each.

Phase II – All other SD7’s had the same access doors equipped with two sets of four louvers instead of the hole pattern.

EMD Demonstrator 991 was sold to Baltimore & Ohio 760 in August 1953.

Steam generators: Bessemer & Lake Erie 801-803, Burlington 300-324, Ft Worth & Denver 850-860, EMD 990-991, Union Pacific 783-784, and Southern Pacific 5316-5335.

Dynamic brakes: All SD7’s were built with dynamic brakes except: Baltimore & Ohio 761-764, Bessemer & Lake Erie 451-455, Burlington 404-411, Milwaukee Road 2200-2219, and all of the units built for Chicago & North Western, Great Northern, Minneapolis & St Louis, Kennecott Copper Corp., and the Nevada Northern.

Milwaukee Road 2200-2204 were the first SD7’s built, in April, 1953. Baltimore & Ohio 761-764 were the final units built, in November, 1954.

EMD Demonstrator 990 was sold to Southern Pacific 5308 October 10, 1952.

EMD Demonstrator 991 was sold to Baltimore & Ohio 760 in August 1953.
