Phases

Phase I – Sideframe is straight, no indentations for securing a chain to the jack pads.

Phase II – The bottom of the sideframe has notches on either side of the jack pad to secure chains, as on Central Railroad of New Jersey 2008, above. This change occurred some time between August, 1936, and January, 1937. Chicago Great Western 5-7 do not have the notches, but Philadelphia Bethlehem & New England 204 does.
