History

The Mexican government owned most of the railroads in Mexico, yet they were each separate and distinct companies. As the need arose, it was not uncommon to transfer power from one road to another, as they were needed for construction.

The Chihuahua al Pacifico had taken over the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient and completed construction over the Sierra Madre in 1960. A single S6 was bought new in 1956, part of a joint order for one for the NdeM, and five Ferrocarril del Pacifico S6’s were added at an unknown date.

As the railroad in Yucatan was completed and rebuilt, all of these S6’s were transferred to the Ferrocarril de Sureste, which was merged with the Ferrocarrilles Unidos de Yucatan to form the Ferrocarrilles Unidos de Sureste in 1975.
